Lake Powell - tourism and real estate

source: Lake Powell Chronicle, Jennifer Rae Palmer Lake Powell, the "Man-Made Sea of the Southwest", is listed as one of the "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" in Patricia Schultz's recently released second edition of the book. "Imagine the Grand Canyon and then fill it with water," Schultz wrote, noting that Lake Powell is the second largest man-made lake in America, with "turquoise waters that shimmer like a mirage in the red rock country of northern Arizona and southern Utah." The author also calls Page " the busy gateway town" where sea kayaks and houseboats can be rented and where accomodations are available. Schultz cites Rainbow Bridge as a must-see landmark, calling it a site of "deep spiritual significance to the Navajo," and noting it's claim to fame as being the largest natural arch in the world. Finally, she discusses the "exquisite 600-acre property of the famously high-service " Amangiri . Schultz said "Ancient Navajo traditions are incorporated into its spa's extensive offerings." Other Arizona landmarks included in Schultz's "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" are the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and golfing in the Valley of the Sun. The 2011 release of thus New York Times Bestseller inlcludes 200 new entries. End of article We at Lake Powell View Estates couldn't agree more, however, we would place Lake Powell in the top 100 places to see before you die! Come out and visit and when you can imagine living in this Mecca of ancient beauty come by and see our residential development at Greenehaven. Lake Powell is one of the most splendid wonders of the world. Lying just north of the Grand Canyon the lake wraps itself around over 2,000 miles of shoreline. Located in the center of famous canyons, the city is a beautiful three-hour drive to awe inspiring national parks, monuments and state and tribal parks. The sun drenched red,slick-rock scenery that encompasses Page is the lure that draws in hikers, naturalists, boaters, cyclists, pilots, photographers and sightseers from around the globe.

DARK SKY COMMUNITIES

What are they? Why are they important?
Who among us has never stood gazing upon a night sky filled with stars and galaxies in complete wonderment? It may be one of the most fascinating experiences a person can have. Today, though, many of our night skies are drowned out by the lights of our modern cities. Although it is not possible to live in a city, town or even neighborhood safely without lights we can do a lot to reduce the light pollution that overtakes the natural gift of the celestial sky. One such group is all about this effort. The mission of the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark skies through environmentally responsible outdoor lighting.http:/http://www.darksky.org/index.php? option=com_content&view=article&id=637

The good news is that many lighting companies are beginning to carry larger lines of Dark Sky Lighting. These lights are crafted to shine light downward and oftern hide the bulb to reduce glare.

Lake Powell View Estates at Greenehaven supports Dark Sky Community practices. The gift of a "Million Dollar View" is not just one for the daytime. Our night skies that cover Lake Powell are spectacular. Take a look at IDA's Good Neighbor Guide to Residential Lighting and give it some thought. Hope you catch a shooting star! http:/http://docs.darksky.org/PG/PG3-residential-lighting.pdf

Lake Powell - A Lake is Born

Colorado River 2Lake Powell is a baby in the geographical world of the Colorado River and Grand Canyon. It's creation was the result of the demand for water by the prospering, fast growing and desert thirsty southwestern United States. After much debate, Glen Canyon Dam was commissioned to be engineered and construction began with a demolition blast keyed by the push of a button by President Dwight D. Eisenhower at his desk in the Oval Office on October 1, 1956. The project completed in 1963 and the mighty Colorado began filling the lake. 17 years later in 1980 Lake Powell had reached her final levels. Comprising the most spectacular scenery in the world this lake is home to 2,000 miles of shore line weaving in and out of vermillion cliffs and canyons. Today, its a water sport mecca and one of the most incredible locations on earth for the modern person to reset their clock to a place of tranquility. Lake Powell View Estates at Greenehaven has the distinct honor of being a residential community unparalleled in views of Lake Powell, surrounded by protected federal lands, and 6 miles from the active city of Page, Arizona. Come visit us. Words won't be necessary for you to see why we call it home.
